Managing Distractions And Avoiding Delays

Lesson #11

Every now and then life becomes difficult, and you have to make adjustments. Before you decide to get too involved on a project or assignment, you really do have to manage your time, so that you can finish everything you start. When you don't have time to do something, it's not a good idea to force it, because you'll end up rushing thought it, and getting it wrong. If you don't have the time to do an assignment, then don't take it.

When you get an assignment that you know for sure you can finish, it has to be something that you know. Things you already know can be done faster than things that you have to figure out. Because you have a choice then choose the job that takes less time if you know the work. If you know that you have appointments and other things scheduled for that day, or week, then you don't have time to figure things out. In that case, unless you can get help, you might not get everything done on time.

The best thing you can do for yourself, is to let people know that you have work to do, so that you'll have the time to do it. Most people won't bother you if they know your working. Then there are the people that say you spend too much time working. You have to judge for yourself whether its worth the time to do the extra work, or enjoy the free time that you have, because you can't do both, unless it's an easy assignment. Sometimes with Projects, it has to be one or the other.

Conflicts of interest happen when your enjoying the free time, and then try to work in between the fun. It gets frustrating, and once again, you miss things that you would normal catch. The old saying about "Business Before Pleasure" is only partly right, because you have a choice between the two. Just like any other parttime job, it can get aggravating if you push yourself too hard. Choose assignments carefully, and think about the time you have to do it, before you make the commitment.
