Program Menus And Settings Adjustments for Data

Lesson #12

Most of the time when you download a program and begin using it, there's no problem because the settings are just right for whatever you have to do. But sometimes, when the program doesn't work right, it's either the "mobile phone" settings or the "application" settings, and it's not easy to figure out which to change unless you know what they do. You should know that the phone settings takes priority over the application settings, and control what the application can do, or not do.

Nothing happens without some kind of data connection. Some types of data connections for a phone are Cellular, Digital, Bluetooth and Wifi. There is a third connection that involves a physical connection to a computer called "tethering", but it requires a settings change to allow a Computer to use the Data connection of the phone to connect to the internet with Wifi or Data. The settings are different for each Brand of phone, but you'll find the settings option in the settings area.

If you turn off the Wifi on your phone, then your using another data connection to upload and download. This may cost extra money unless you have an unlimited plan. If your actually working with your phone, the unlimited plan is recommended. The Wifi connection is preferred because the data is faster and usually more reliable. But you have to be close enough to the signal to take advantage of the speed it offers. Unless you always connect to Wifi, you'll be using data.

The application settings are for the application that you have open, and not for the phone. So when your application doesn't work like it should, first check the application setting to see if there's a problem. Then close the program and open the "phone" settings to see if you have a good data connection. Any online storage program like Google Drive, Windows Office 365, OneDrive, Dropbox, etc., needs some kind of data connection to open files that are stored there. For that reason, it's always best to download files, edit them, and then upload a copy to the storage space. The original file should never be stored online, because if you lose your data connection, you won't be able to get to it.

So finally, you should get used to opening and viewing your settings area, and knowing where everything is, so that you can make changes that you need to make quickly. The settings for the application you're using, can usually be found in the upper right or left, or lower right or left side of the screen, or on the phone itself as a button. The best thing you can do when you purchase your phone is to read through the OWNERS MANUAL and get familiar with the phone settings before you do anything else. And of course, make sure that you always have a good data connection, and know where you can find a Wifi connection in case you need more speed to get your work done.
