Different Storage Methods for Different Devices
Lesson #14
It's important to know what other devices are capable of, and how they store information so that when you're working with someone, you can both transfer and receive the files you need. Remember what was mentioned about the different file formats, and try to use "Plain Text" when you have to send and receive files, so that you don't run into conflicts that cause delays. It can be frustrating when you have to redo projects because the files are in the wrong format. Also keep in mind that most of the storage methods are interchangeable, and not dedicated to any one device.
iPhone Storage with iCloud
iCloud is a backup service for the iPhone to store the entire contents of the device. iTunes is a Computer program that backs up your files locally on your Computer. You can use iCloud or iTunes to back up your files. You can also use Dropbox, OneDrive or Google Drive because they work with and connect to your computer for access to the files you save.
Android Storage with Google Drive
Android Backup is used to back up and store the contents of your device, but you can't view or use the files there. You can also plug your device into a Computer to copy files back and forth. The best method of storage is on the SD Card that comes with it. You can purchase a larger card for more storage. You can also use Dropbox, OneDrive or Google Drive because they work with and connect to your computer for access to the files you save.
Windows Phone Storage with OneDrive
(more common in Corporations)
OneDrive is used to back up and store contents on that device. Some people still use Windows phones, and we have to know something about them. Because it's based on the Windows operating system, most tasks are done automatically and synced to a Windows computer. Most of the actual convenience is knowing that you can view the same files the same way, on both the Mobile Device and the Computer you sign in with.
Blackberry Storage with Desktop Software
(depreciated, but still useful information)
Blackberry Desktop Software is used to back up and store the contents of your device, but you can't view or use the files there. BlackBerry Cloud File Manager can also be used to store and view your files. Use Google Apps on BlackBerry to connect to online storage for files there. The best method of storage is on the SD Card that comes with it. You can purchase a larger card for more storage. You can also use Dropbox, OneDrive or Google Drive because they work with and connect to your computer for access to the files you save.
Summary:
If you noticed the pattern, you'll see that each device has a backup method, and another storage method that allows file access from another location. The SD Card is the best place to store files (except with iPhone). Google Drive, OneDrive and Dropbox is popular for all of these devices to use for storage. So to connect with people that use these other devices, you can create a Google Drive, OneDrive and Dropbox account to use on your Device and Computer. The basic account is free, and can be used on both a Computer and on the Device.
Note:
NEVER SHARE FILE STORAGE WITH SOMEONE YOU DON'T KNOW. Meaning in REALITY, and not on the internet either. You can transfer and receive files, but it's never a good idea to SHARE file storage with anyone.
