Formatted Documents And Editing

Lesson #16

It might seem like common sense to some, but it really needs to be mentioned. When you open a Document in Microsoft Word, or Google or any other program, on a "Computer" and then save it. Then open it on a "Mobile Device", it might look a little bit different. Then when you make changes to that document, and open it on a Computer again, it looks different than it did before. The reason why is the formatting.

Programs on a Computer have more complex formatting than you would see on a Mobile Device, because the Computer is more powerful than the Mobile Device, and can create more detailed and intricate designs. You might have read in a previous class that TEXT is the best way to create and save documents, but every now and then, you find yourself in a position where you have no choice but to edit a document before you send it, because something in it has to be corrected or changed. Resumes, Cover Letters, Legal Documents, and Promotional Material fall under the category of "formatted documents".

There's no easy way to make a Document look exactly the same on both a Computer and Mobile Device, because of the way each file was created and the program that was used to create the file. So we have to find a way to edit the file, and save it in exactly the same format as before. One way is to avoid the Mobile Device all together, and find a Computer to work with. The other option, would be to send the file to someone that is behind a computer (and works with the Activemode Network), and have them make the changes for you.

Editing Documents can be simple, if we don't think too much about forcing it with a Mobile Device. Just like any other file, not everything works the way we want it on a Mobile Device, and the Computer that we try to get away from, will still be useful when we need it. We just have to know when it's time to use more power for what we're doing. And we don't want to fight with the assignment on a Mobile Device, and wait for the last hour to give in. Time goes fast, and we have other things to do.

So to summarize, it's a good idea, to create the Document from a computer, save it to a drive space, then work on it through the day when you open it on a Mobile Device till you get home, and then format the Document before you send it in. That way there's no problem, and you don't have to wonder how the document will look when it's received.
