Advertising Marketing and Search Engine Optimization

Lesson #23

It sounds easy, but all things considered, it's a lot more complex than people think it is. You will probably not receive any assignments that require you to provide Advertising, Marketing or Search Engine Optimization, but it's important to know what it is, and how it's accomplished.

Advertising is just that. People need to advertise their business to bring in more customers so they can make money. The reason why we probably won't ask you to advertise for us is because there's a chance that things can go bad if it's not done right. Companies are sometimes paid millions of dollars to make a business profitable, and if it's done wrong, the business can fail. People will make a judgment on your advertising, and decide if the product is worth what you say it is. If it turns out that the advertising is not what they expected, things can go bad really fast.

Marketing involves the product that you're advertising, and how you present it. Again, if you present a product a certain way, and it appears to be acceptable to the person that wants to buy it, then everything is fine. However, if the product you market is not what they expect, and your marketing shows something that's totally different from what they actually buy, then they'll complain. It could lead to Lawsuits and possibly shut down an entire factory, and millions could be lost. I should say "billions", but we're talking about small businesses that can't afford to lose even a thousand. So marketing should also be left to the professionals.

Search Engine Optimization is a combination of Advertising and Marketing when applied to Search Engines and how they find a business when someone types in a key word. I have to say that the SEOs that perform this service can either succeed or fail, and the money that's invested can be well worth the effort, when you choose the right ones. If you choose the wrong company, your money will be wasted, and nothing will happen. The truth is this: ... Search Engines optimize themselves, by finding the most popular items that people search for. When you try to control how the Search Engine normally works, you can end up with NOT finding the one thing that you're looking for.

Everyone wants to win, and make all the money. Advertising, Marketing and Search Engine Optimization is designed to help people succeed. But there's a cost that most people don't understand. Manipulating the search results can cause results to fail, and ultimately not be found at all. The people that make the Search Engines, design them to find ONLY the things people search for and not anything they don't want to see, otherwise people will stop using them. So the manipulation eventually fails, and the results are blocked by the Search Engine, because of abuse by the SEO, and the business they represent don't get the results they paid for.

The best way to advertise a product, if you haven't already figured it out, is by word of mouth, and consistent conversations about it. If a person searches for an item often enough, the Search engine will place it on top of the results, because it belongs there. And if you really need to advertise then higher professionals, and not those people that say they can work Magic. There's no such thing as guaranteed results. So if you want a business to become more popular, then take the time to talk about it, and make it more popular. Shortcuts are expensive, and they don't always work.
